Hi, my name is Lisa McManes and I am the Community Director of the Orenda Society. The Orenda Society is a local non-for-profit organization that delivers a unique blend of yoga, mindfulness, personal development, and mentorship programming to youth.

I currently facilitate the ORENDA GIRLS registered program for girls aged 8 yrs-12yrs. This program is all about educating the heart.  We create a safe space for girls to connect and relate through real and raw discussion.  We talk about self-care, gratitude, friendships, body image, self-worth, and self-love. To witness these young women, grow their self-love and their self-worth is an incredible experience.  I am empowered by these girls who make a commitment to trust themselves and show up authentically – they are the real deal.   We create, and we journal in our program – we answer the hard questions about ourselves.  We come to our yoga mats and we breathe, and we move. These young women learn about the power of their inner strength, and of their unique magnificence.

When I was a young girl I had never heard of any of these concepts- self-love, self-awareness, gratitude, self-care etc.  For these girls to learn these concepts and tools to help them navigate through the ups and downs of life is invaluable, and I am honored to be right there with them to witness their shifts and growth.  These girls are our future and if we can all come together and support, learn from each other, and keep the conversation going about mental health we will thrive together.
